Who needs glass slippers when we’ve got Louboutins? Christian Louboutin has played fairy godfather to a silver screen icon, creating a limited-edition shoe design inspired by Cinderella.
Invited to re-imagine Cinderella’s slippers in honour of the diamond edition re-release of Walt Disney’s classic animated film this fall, Louboutin designed a pair of shoes fit for a fairy-tale princess.
Rather than moulded glass, the designer opted for the transparency of white lace and crystal embellishment to evoke the magical shoes. Displayed during couture week in Paris, the shoes feature butterfly appliqués and crystal-strewn mini-platforms—complete with Louboutin’s trademark red soles, of course.
‘Cinderella is not only an iconic character when it comes to beauty, grace and fairytale love, but also shoes,’ the designer said. ‘Her character and her story dictated the design to me, it was all there in the pages and the words of this tale.’
One thing is certain: had Cinderella worn these beauties rather than those slippery slippers, she would never have discarded one shoe on the palace stairs...
