MULBERRY is launching what is bound to be one of this season's most covetable bags, a reinterpretation of the label's best-selling Alexa style. The satchel comes in a host of new finishes, from shiny lambskin to green lizard print.
"The Travel Day Bag and its gorgeous characteristics are inspired by the golden age of travel and the nostalgic glamour of vintage steamer trunks," Mulberry creative director Emma Hill told us. "We love its metal tipped corners and a smart metal logo plaque. It's a classic satchel, but with a super modern (yet nostalgically-inspired), twist. It's definitely a statement bag that will have all the girls drooling!"
With Blake Lively, Hayley Atwell and Juno Temple all fans of the style already, the bag is set to become as popular as its predecessors - but Hill says the secret to the label's success lies in in its heritage, rather than its celebrity endorsers.
"I think the appreciation of well-manufactured, English heritage bags is something people are willing to invest in - the idea of knowing that their Mulberry will last season after season and become a heirloom piece in their wardrobe forever," she explained. "Then we can take classic pieces and play with them; give them a contemporary edge and a new look."
Now with so many best-selling styles under her belt, does Hill ever feel a pressure to designing handbags even more covetable than the last?
"We just hope people cherish our bags," she said. "We want them to fall in love with all our styles old and new, and if it's successful and turns into a classic then that's amazing too - but in the end we just want people to love them."
