Browns founder Joan Burstein and designer Paul Smith collected their Médaille de la Ville de Paris awards this weekend, watched by some of the industry's key names. The International Herald Tribune's Suzy Menkes introduced Mrs B - who attended the ceremony in a Lanvin dress and cashmere and fur Fendi shawl, with necklaces by Natasha Collis - whilst the Mayor of Paris introduced Smith. British buyers and retailers attended the ceremony in their droves, with representatives from Harrods, Selfridges,Matches, Joseph and Mr Porter all present to offer their support and congratulations. International buyers, from Dries Van Noten, Lanvin, Balenciaga, Lane Crawford in Hong Kong and Saks Fifth Ave also attended - as well as Ralph Toledano, the newly-named ceo of Jean Paul Gaultier. Smith's wife Pauline also attended the ceremony, as did Burstein's family including her children Caroline and Simon, and their children, Burstein's grandchildren.
