Where Marchesa leads, others follow. So far, brands taking to the catwalk for the first time during the upcoming New York Fashion Week include Tory Burch, Timo Weiland, Mark Fast’s Faster, and... J.Crew.
The American style powerhouse plans to make its runway debut with a presentation on Tuesday, September 13.
Whereas many designers show outré pieces never intended for production during their shows, J.Crew will have to narrow down its retail offering in a major way. We imagine that Creative Director Jenna Lyons will view the presentation as a chance to showcase the brand’s premium J.Crew Collection. With its $1200 double-faced cashmere popovers and $1495 leopard calf hair jackets, it’s a different proposition to the $25 tees and $60 chinos in the main line.
Then again, everything looks better on the right model. Model-of-the-moment Arizona Muse featured in the May catalogue, while Liu Wen and Jacquelyn Jablonski starred in the fall lookbook. Could we see them on the J.Crew runway soon?
