Opening-day attendance to the Alexander McQueen retrospective at the Metropolitan Museum of Art broke records for a fashion exhibition, reported the New York Times.5,100 people walked through the doors of the Savage Beauty show last Wednesday, forcing the museum to suspend its scheduled guided tours until crowds thinned.
That number is just a few hundred short of the Met’s most-trafficked opening day. About 5,400 people clamoured to see ‘Vincent van Gogh: The Drawings’ when it opened in 2005.
A museum spokesperson said the gift shop sold 600 exhibition catalogues last Wednesday. No word yet on how many mini Armadillo shoes flew out the door... but we're sure that broke a record too.
